Immigration Department Clarifies Airport Delay Case
AKP Phnom Penh, March 20, 2026 --
The General Department of Immigration (GDI) under the Ministry of Interior has issued a clarification regarding a recent case involving a Chinese tourist at Techo International Airport.
According to the GDI’s spokesperson, on the afternoon of Mar. 3, 2026, a Chinese national identified as Peng Zhilei arrived in Cambodia on flight K6-669 (CAN–KTI) for tourism purposes.
Upon inspection by immigration police officers at the airport, it was found that the traveller did not possess a return ticket, holding only a one-way ticket to Cambodia. As a result, the officers required him to purchase a return ticket before granting entry, in accordance with existing immigration procedures.
After complying with the requirement and purchasing a return ticket, the tourist was subsequently permitted to enter the Kingdom.
The department noted that the individual later posted a video on his personal TikTok account, describing his experience at the airport and mentioning delays of approximately three to four hours due to document checks. In the video, he also outlined the documentation requirements for entering Cambodia for tourism and employment purposes, advising other Chinese nationals to prepare the necessary documents accordingly.
According to the Immigration Department, the content of the video acknowledged that the enforcement of procedures by immigration officers at Techo International Airport is appropriate and necessary to regulate entry and exit, as well as to prevent illegal activities by foreign nationals.
