Cambodia Prepares for 10th Annual River Festival to Boost Ecotourism
AKP Phnom Penh, March 17, 2026 -- Cambodia is set to host its 10th annual River Festival in Kratie province from Marc. 27 to 29, 2026, an initiative aimed at showcasing the Kingdom’s riverside tourism potential and promoting sustainable local economic growth.
The announcement was made by Samdech Kitti Sangahapundit Men Sam An, Member of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, during a traditional "Krong Porli" blessing ceremony held on the sands of Koh Trung in Kratie province this morning.
Accompanied by Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Kratie province, and senior provincial officials, the ceremony followed Khmer traditions to seek prosperity and ensure the smooth execution of the upcoming festivities.
"The River Festival is a flagship tourism event organised by the Royal Government to highlight our scenic waterways, preserve our natural and cultural heritage, and stimulate the local economy," Samdech Men Sam An stated.
This year’s festival is themed "Green Rivers, Cultural Heritage and Rich Natural Resources." Beyond the cultural spectacles, the event is designed to draw both domestic and international travellers to experience the unique biodiversity and traditional lifestyles of the Mekong region.
The ceremony included offerings to the "Preah Mae Kongkea" (Goddess of Water) as a gesture of gratitude for the water resources that sustain the nation's agriculture and wildlife.
Officials emphasised that the festival serves as a strategic platform for regional development, and will foster solidarity among stakeholders to promote "green development"—balancing economic gains with environmental and cultural preservation.
Kratie, renowned for its rare Irrawaddy dolphins and French colonial architecture, expects a significant influx of visitors during the three-day event, which is anticipated to provide a direct boost to household incomes and small businesses across the province.
