AKP Phnom Penh, March 02, 2026 --
The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), in cooperation with Phnom Penh Municipal Hall, is planning to organise the “Nokor Sankranta” event in celebration of the Khmer Traditional New Year.
Scheduled to take place from April 14 to 19 in Phnom Penh, the planned event is aimed to widely promote Cambodia’s national customs, culture, and traditions, while further strengthening solidarity with displaced communities and frontline soldiers, stated H.E. Sok Sabayna, Head of the Executive Working Group and a Member of the Permanent Committee of the UYFC Central Committee, during a meeting at the Ministry of Information on Monday.
The meeting was presided over by H.E. Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Civil Service, and President of the UYFC, and was attended by H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information, along with senior officials, representatives of television and radio associations, journalists, and UYFC members.
H.E. Sok Sabayna stated that the “Nokor Sankranta” event is intended to preserve and protect national culture and traditions as part of the nation’s cultural foundation, promote economic activity as part of national development, attract tourists to Cambodia, and support the “Home Coming” campaign. The event also seeks to demonstrate unity, solidarity, resilience, and strong bonds with displaced people and heroic frontline soldiers. He added that religious ceremonies will be organised during the festival to dedicate merit to fallen heroes and victims, as well as to pray for peace and well-being for the nation.
According to H.E. Sok Sabayna, all profits from the sale of mascots and a portion of revenue from booth rentals will be donated to displaced families. The event will also include the “10,000 Krama” social movement symbolising public affection, the sending of greeting cards and messages of encouragement to frontline troops, and community activities such as making Ambok (roasted, flattened rice), wrapping Ansom (traditional sticky rice cake), and roasting rice cakes at the event sites to be delivered to soldiers at the frontlines.
In addition, large-scale stage performances will showcase the heroism of frontline forces defending national territorial integrity. Khmer New Year celebrations are also planned to be organised at displaced persons’ camps, along with a massive "Art for Peace" mural created by national and international artists in front of Botum Vattey Pagoda in Phnom Penh that evokes remembrance and solidarity with fallen heroes and displaced communities.
The “Nokor Sankranta” will be held at several major locations in Phnom Penh, including Wat Phnom Historical Resort, the Chaktomuk Walk Street, Vattanac Capital Lifestyle Park, the Night Market, and other designated venues.
