Papua New Guinea’s Central Bank Seeks Cambodia’s Experience in Banking and Financial Development

The Bank of Papua New Guinea is currently in Cambodia to learn from the country’s experience in digital banking and financial inclusion, while praising Cambodia as one of the leading countries in the region in developing digital payment systems.
The remarks were made by H.E. Mrs. Elizabeth Genia, Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, during a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), held in Phnom Penh on Jan. 14.
During the meeting, H.E. Mrs. Elizabeth Genia expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Cambodian side and commended Cambodia’s remarkable progress in digital payment systems. She emphasised the importance of strengthening interbank payment systems, citing Cambodia’s success in this area, and highlighted the need for closer collaboration to share key experiences from the NBC.
For her part, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey welcomed the delegation and briefed them on recent visits by delegations from various central banks. She underscored the positive progress Cambodia has made in promoting financial inclusion following the launch of its interbank payment system, which has earned high praise from international institutions for improving daily life and facilitating business activities.
Both sides agreed to further enhance cooperation in banking and financial development.
Following the meeting, the delegation from the Bank of Papua New Guinea also visited the Preah Srey Içanavarman (SOSORO) Museum, which showcases Cambodia’s economic history and currency development from the first century to the present.
