The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), through the Ministry of Health, has donated medical supplies to Cambodia to provide essential reproductive healthcare services to communities in border areas.

The handover ceremony was held yesterday in Phnom Penh under the presidency of H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, and Ms. Sandra Bernklau, UNFPA Representative in Cambodia.

H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra expressed his deep gratitude to UNFPA for its timely and valuable support to the Royal Government of Cambodia, particularly for women, mothers, and infants affected by border conflicts. He emphasised that the assistance not only reflects UNFPA’s strong emergency response capacity, but also demonstrates the enduring spirit of solidarity and cooperation between Cambodia and UNFPA over the past three decades.

“Despite the ceasefire, the health consequences persist. These 70 kits, containing vital medical equipment and essential medicines, will be deployed to ensure the continuity of maternal and neonatal care, prevent maternal mortality, and address the health needs of displaced persons,” the minister said.

He added that the assistance aligns with the 2025-2034 Strategic Health Plan and is guided by four key pillars: strengthening maternal and neonatal health, enhancing health system resilience, achieving universal health coverage, and improving governance and coordination.

For her part, Ms. Sandra Bernklau expressed her appreciation to the Ministry of Health for deploying mobile health teams from national hospitals to the affected border provinces, ensuring continued access to essential health services for vulnerable populations.
