Cambodian Minister Meets New WFP Country Director to Discuss Disaster Early Warning Systems
AKP Phnom Penh, January 12, 2026 --
Cambodia’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, H.E. Chea Vandeth, on Monday met with the newly appointed Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to discuss cooperation on strengthening early warning systems for natural disasters.
During the meeting at the Ministry, H.E. Chea Vandeth and WFP Cambodia Country Director Ms. Kyung-nan Park exchanged views on collaboration under the “Early Warnings for All” initiative, aimed at reducing disaster risks and enhancing climate change adaptation.
The discussions focused on developing early warning information systems to help save lives and minimise losses among communities vulnerable to natural hazards, according to a ministry statement.
Ms. Park underscored the importance of digital technologies in improving the efficiency of daily operations and expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation between the ministry and WFP to support Cambodia’s disaster preparedness efforts.
The meeting comes as Cambodia continues to expand the use of digital infrastructure to improve resilience against climate-related risks.
