Cambodian Athletes Earn 698 Medals from International Open Taekwondo Championship

The Cambodia WT taekwondo team won a total of 698 medals, including 228 gold, 195 silver, and 275 bronze medals, from the Hope International Open Taekwondo Championship 2026, the most among the six participating countries.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the 1st Hope International Open Taekwondo Championship 2026, at the Buyong Hall of the National Olympic Stadium on Jan. 11, Mr. Choi Yongsok, South Korean Coach of the Cambodian National WT Taekwondo, appreciated the results, and said the event will be organised on a bigger scale in the coming years.
Organised in Phnom Penh from Jan. 9 to 11 by the Cambodian Taekwondo Federation in collaboration with Taekwondo Academy and Kukkiwon Cambodia, the event attracted the participation of 560 athletes from Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea, according to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).
Myanmar came in second with 41 medals – 15 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 18 bronze medals, followed by Vietnam with 3 medals – 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal, Singapore with two medals – 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal, Malaysia with 1 gold medal, and South Korea with 2 bronze medals.
The event aimed to develop the capacity of grassroots youth, aged from 5 to over 18 years, for the Asian Youth Games to be hosted by Cambodia in 2029 and other international sports events, said NOCC.
