Senior Official Urges Intensified Crackdown on Cybercrime for 2026
AKP Phnom Penh, January 01, 2026 --
Senior Minister H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, President of the National Information Technology Centre, has called on officials to escalate security measures and intensify the crackdown on all forms of cybercrime to safeguard national security.
Presiding over a year-end review on Wednesday, H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, who also heads the Secretariat of the Ad-hoc Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), outlined strategic priorities for 2026.
He urged leadership and officers to sharpen their investigative capabilities to dismantle criminal networks as part of the Royal Government’s broader campaign to eradicate transnational crime from Cambodia.
"Officials must focus on strategic research and proactive investigations to stay ahead of evolving technological threats," he said during the gathering at the National IT Centre.
He emphasised the following key pillars for the upcoming year: Continuous professional training from technical experts to keep pace with rapid digital shifts; Strengthening internal unity and fostering an environment for knowledge sharing between state and private sectors; Expanding partnerships with regional and global stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of cross-border enforcement.
The directive follows a nationwide sweep launched by the Royal Government of Cambodia on July 14, 2025, aimed at purging online scams.
Under this mandate, inter-ministerial authorities are authorised to take the strictest legal actions against ringleaders and masterminds of cyber-fraud operations to ensure public order and social safety.
