Cambodia Briefs Foreign Diplomats on Latest Developments in Border Tensions with Thailand
AKP Phnom Penh, December 26, 2025 -- Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday briefed representatives of 21 diplomatic missions on the latest developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
The briefing, delivered by H.E. Norng Sakal, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was held on Thursday afternoon at the ministry’s headquarters in Phnom Penh. A total of 24 diplomats attended the session.
According to the ministry, H.E. Norng Sakal outlined five key issues. These included the outcomes of the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SAMM) on the Current Situation Between Cambodia and Thailand, held on Dec. 22, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur; the ongoing Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) Secretariat; and the status of the aggressively armed attacks by Thai armed forced on Cambodia’s territory.
He also addressed landmine issues that Thailand has utilised as a narrative to mislead the international community regarding its aggressive actions on Cambodian territory; and Cambodian Human Right Committee’s condemnation of Thai armed forces’ brutal and indiscriminate attacks against populated areas in the Cambodian provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, Preah Vihear, and Koh Kong.
H.E. Norng Sakal reiterated Cambodia’s firm and consistent commitment to an immediate ceasefire, as well as to maintaining peace and stability. He said Cambodia would continue to exercise maximum restraint and prioritise dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful settlement of disputes in line with international law and existing bilateral mechanisms.
These mechanisms include the ceasefire agreement of July 28, 2025, and the Joint Declaration adopted in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, 2025, he added.
