Thailand Deploys F-16 Fighter Jets Deep into Cambodia, Targeting Civilian Areas

Thai forces deployed additional F-16 fighter jets deep into Cambodian territory this afternoon, targeting areas in Siem Reap and Preah Vihear provinces.
According to a news release from the Ministry of National Defence, Thai F-16s bombarded the O’Kontoeung area in Sre Noy commune, Varin district, Siem Reap province, at 4:18 p.m. Shortly after, at 5:10 p.m., they also bombed Sa’em commune in Choam Khsant district, Preah Vihear province.
Later, at 5:25 p.m., Thai forces continued shelling civilian areas in Tuol Pongro village, Sangkat O’Russey, Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey province.
Addressing Thailand’s unlawful military operations against Cambodia, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, stated that Cambodian forces continue to monitor the situation closely. She emphasised that they remain strong, brave, and vigilant in their mission to protect Cambodia's territorial integrity.
“We will protect our dignity with courage and unwavering resolve, at any cost, and without succumbing to coercion or intimidation in any form,” she reiterated during a press briefing this afternoon.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Interior, as of 1:00 p.m. on Dec. 22, 2025, the conflict has resulted in a total of 20 civilian deaths and 80 injuries. Among the injured is a Chinese national who was hurt when Thai forces attacked a civilian home in Battambang province.
The Ministry also confirmed that the number of displaced people has risen to 524,590, including 166,884 children.
