Cambodia Accuses Thailand of Disinformation Campaign Amid Rising Border Tensions
AKP Phnom Penh, December 19, 2025 — Cambodia on Friday demanded that Thailand immediately halt a "deliberate dissemination of false information," accusing it of using propaganda to justify military escalations and distract from violations of international law.
The statement, issued during a press conference by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, marks a sharp rhetorical escalation between the two neighbors.
H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata alleged that Thailand is orchestrating a campaign of fabrications to undermine Cambodia’s territorial integrity. She urged the Thai military to "return to the path of peace" by honouring breached ceasefire agreement and adhering to bilateral peace frameworks.
"The Thai armed forces must demonstrate sincerity and good faith through responsible actions and strict respect for international law, rather than through rhetoric and falsehoods," she said.
The spokeswoman confirmed that Cambodian armed forces and national police remain in a state of high alert across all fronts. She emphasised that Cambodia retains its "inherent right to self-defence" under international law to protect its sovereignty "at whatever cost necessary."
While calling for public calm, Socheata struck a defiant tone, asserting that the Royal Government and military stand united against acts of aggression.
