Thai Forces Reject Ceasefire Call by Malaysian Prime Minister
AKP Phnom Penh, December 14, 2025 -- Today marks the eighth consecutive day of Thai military attacks against Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, said H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence.
Speaking at a press briefing this morning, the spokeswoman updated the public on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border, noting that while some battlefields have remained calm, others continue to experience intense fighting as Thai forces persist in aggressive attacks using artillery, tanks, F-16 fighter jets, toxic gas, and cluster bombs.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, some of major affected areas include the Preah Vihear and Khnar Temple areas in Preah Vihear province; Ek Pheap village in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province; and Chouk Chey village in O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.
The Ministry of National Defence once again called on Thai forces to immediately cease their indiscriminate armed attacks and the use of fighter jets inside Cambodian territory.
Such actions constitute a grave violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as international law.
H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and ASEAN Chair, initiated a ceasefire to take effect at 10:00 p.m. (UTC+7) on Dec. 13. The ceasefire was welcomed by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, but rejected by the Thai side.
