Cambodia Praises International Cooperation in Combating Transnational Crime
AKP Phnom Penh, December 12, 2025 --
Cambodia has expressed its appreciation for international cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), its member states, and development partners in jointly combating transnational crime and the operations of scam centres.
H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister and Chairman of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), made the remarks during the closing ceremony of a Regional Workshop on International Cooperation in Combating Scam Centres, held in Phnom Penh on Thursday.
The two-day workshop was co-organised by the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, with financial support from the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea.
The event brought together experienced investigators, judges, prosecutors, and representatives of national authorities from several countries in the region, including Lao PDR, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, China, France, and Cambodia. Participants shared experiences and best practices related to investigative methods and techniques, as well as the prosecution of cybercriminals.
Discussions also covered electronic evidence collection, preservation, sharing, and admissibility; financial investigations; and strategies for protecting victims and witnesses, and so on.
Appreciating the ongoing cooperation between Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice and UNODC, the Senior Minister stressed that the workshop responds to the priority needs of all member states in combating transnational crime – particularly by strengthening international cooperation, mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, and extradition – to enhance the effectiveness and comprehensive approach to tackling cross-border crime.
