Cambodian Red Cross Delivers Royal Aid to Thousands Displaced by Border Tensions
AKP Phnom Penh, December 11, 2025 --
The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), led by President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, has distributed crucial humanitarian assistance to thousands of families displaced by ongoing tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
The relief effort follows a generous royal donation from Her Majesty Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.
Hundreds of thousands of Cambodian civilians—including vulnerable populations like pregnant women, infants, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly—have been forced to flee their homes and seek safety in designated shelters.
On Wednesday, following the receipt of a US$100,000 royal donation from the Queen-Mother, Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen immediately mobilised CRC representatives to distribute emergency assistance. The aid was delivered on behalf of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Her Majesty the Queen-Mother.
The initial delivery reached 3,600 displaced families currently housed in two of the six safe centres established in Oddar Meanchey province.
CRC Secretary-General Pum Chantinie stated that Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen ordered the swift deployment of relief supplies to alleviate the immediate hardship faced by the families.
Speaking on behalf of the CRC President, Ms. Chantinie conveyed the deep concern and sympathy of Their Majesties the King and Queen-Mother. She emphasised the Royal Family’s unwavering attentiveness to the well-being of the Cambodian people and noted the Royal Family’s consistent support for the CRC, which reflects the humanitarian principles championed by the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk.
Ms. Chantinie also shared Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen’s personal compassion for the displaced, urging them to prioritise their physical and mental health while in the safe areas.
“National leaders stand firmly with the people during this difficult time and remain committed to supporting them until they can safely return home,” she affirmed.
She concluded with a message of hope for the rapid return of the displaced families to their communities to restore their livelihoods.
Each family received a comprehensive relief package, including essential items such as: 25 kilogrammes of rice; two cases of instant noodles; 20 cans of canned fish; six bottles of soy sauce; a kit containing a mosquito net, blanket, sarong and scarf.
