Ministry of Foreign Affairs Condemns Thai Brutal Attacks on Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, December 10, 2025--
The Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Mrs. Eat Sophea deplored Thailand's armed offensive using heavy weapons on Cambodia’s territory.
Speaking at the briefing for heads and representatives of diplomatic missions from 33 countries and United Nations agencies in Phnom Penh on Dec. 9 to apprise them on the recent outbreak of armed conflict along the Cambodia-Thailand border, she condemned Thailand's armed offensive using heavy weapons, including tanks, artillery, mortars, fighter jets and toxic smoke against multiple Cambodian positions, causing several human casualties and extensive destruction of homes, public infrastructure, and protected national heritage monuments.
H.E. Ms. Eat Sophea rejected the misleading assertion that Cambodia has invaded Thailand and initiated the fighting, while underscoring that the latest assaults on Cambodia constitute a serious violation of International Humanitarian law, the UN and ASEAN Charters and the spirit of ASEAN Community.
She highlighted the use of force by Thai military to demarcate the boundary, undermining the significant progress on the demarcation work at the Boundary Pillars 52-59 and 42-47, achieved by the Joint Boundary Commission.
H.E. Mrs. Eat Sophea also underlined Cambodia's high appreciation for the presence of ASEAN Interim Observer Team (IOT) and ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in verifying Cambodia's sincere commitment to the ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration. She expressed deep gratitude to all partner countries who have called for restraint and full commitment to the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration and peaceful settlement of disputes. She expressed hope that Thailand would act in line with its stated commitment to peace and respect for international law.
