Cambodia Cracks Down on Tech Scams, Detains 75 Thai Nationals in Phnom Penh Raid
AKP Phnom Penh, December 10, 2025 --
Cambodian authorities have detained 75 Thai nationals, including 48 women, following a major operation in the capital targeting an alleged sophisticated online scam ring, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The arrests took place on Dec. 9 afternoon during a targeted raid on a compound identified locally as the "Amara" farm in Phnom Penh's Khan Chbar Ampov. The action was the result of an ongoing investigation that pinpointed the location as a centre for suspected technology-enabled fraud.
The crackdown was orchestrated by the Secretariat of the National Committee for Combating Online Scams, working in coordination with the National Police, the Phnom Penh Unified Command, and local security forces.
The operation was carried out under the direct legal supervision of a prosecutor from the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
During the raid, authorities seized significant evidence linked to the alleged operation, including multiple laptop computers and mobile phones.
Following the arrests, specialised law enforcement units are now collaborating with relevant agencies to broaden the investigation and identify the alleged masterminds of the scam network. The 75 detainees and the confiscated materials have been transferred to the National Police for legal processing, and the premises have been temporarily sealed.
Officials stressed that this operation is a critical part of a nationwide campaign aimed at eradicating technology-based fraud and restoring public safety.
Cambodian authorities reiterated their commitment to pursuing the strictest legal measures against all individuals involved in online scam activities, with assurances that "no exemptions will be granted."
