U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, Cambodian Ministry of Health Pledge Deeper Health Sector Partnership

Cambodia’s Ministry of Health and the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (U.S.-ABC) solidified their commitment today to expanding investment and deepening cooperation in health-sector capacity building, aiming to significantly enhance public health and national well-being.
Cambodia’s Health Minister Professor Chheang Ra hosted a high-level U.S.-ABC delegation at the Ministry headquarters in Phnom Penh. The delegation was led by Mr. Jack Myint, a member of the Council’s Board of Directors, and included representatives from several major member companies.
The Minister expressed his appreciation for the U.S.-ABC and its member companies' ongoing investment in the Kingdom’s health sector, which has included the registration and supply of vital medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and vaccines. Professor Chheang Ra emphasised that these contributions are crucial for strengthening diagnosis, treatment, and overall healthcare service delivery to the Cambodian populace.
For his part, Mr. Jack Myint acknowledged Cambodia's "notable progress" in developing its healthcare system. Both parties engaged in discussions focused on streamlining trade and investment within the sector, stressing the fundamental need for: Regulatory compliance; Affordability of products; Safety protocols; High quality standards.
H.E. Professor Chheang Ra actively encouraged the U.S.-ABC to explore more comprehensive forms of collaboration beyond direct investment. He also outlined specific areas for advanced partnership.
The Minister welcomed the U.S.-ABC’s reaffirmed support for the Ministry of Health’s push to achieve universal health coverage (UHC), a key objective aligned with the Cambodian Royal Government’s current Pentagonal Strategy.
