Situation in Prey Chan and Chouk Chey Villages Remain Calm, Confirms Banteay Meanchey Provincial Administration
AKP Phnom Penh, November 21, 2025 --
The Banteay Meanchey Provincial Administration has reaffirmed that the situation in Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages in O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, remains calm and stable.
The clarification was made in a press release issued this morning following the circulation of old photos and videos – some unrelated and others misleading – showing barbed-wire installations in the two villages. The images, which have resurfaced on social media in recent days, have caused confusion among the public.
According to the press release, the Cambodian-Thai joint survey team has been conducting fieldwork using drones to capture aerial images. Both sides will subsequently begin installing temporary border markers between border posts 42 and 47 in O’Beichoan commune, Banteay Meanchey province, and Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province, in accordance with the Technical Instruction agreed upon by both countries.
The installation of temporary markers between posts 42 and 47 follows the outcomes of the Special Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) Meeting held on Oct. 21–22, 2025. Both parties also agreed to avoid any provocative actions that could affect the JBC’s operations or escalate tensions, particularly those that may violate Article 5 of the MoU 2000.
The Provincial Administration urged the public and social media users to stop sharing outdated or misleading photos, videos, and information.
“Please do not believe or continue sharing old or false content that has already been refuted. The Banteay Meanchey Provincial Administration calls on the public to rely solely on official sources for accurate and reliable information to avoid misunderstandings,” the statement concluded.
