Cambodian Vireak Buntham Company Commences Purchase of 30,000 Tonnes of Contract Rice Paddy
AKP Phnom Penh, November 19, 2025—
Vireak Buntham Company has commenced the procurement of over 30,000 tonnes of Sror Nge short-term rice paddy cultivated under contract farming schemes in Battambang province, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
H.E. Khim Finan, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry, confirmed today that Vireak Buntham is purchasing the paddy at a price of 950 Riel (roughly US$ 0.24) per kilogramme, fulfilling the terms of the contract arrangements facilitated and coordinated by the Ministry.
This strategic partnership involves approximately 2,000 farming households across Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces. These farmers are members of six modern agricultural cooperatives that have signed contract farming agreements with the company.
The Ministry has played a key coordinating role, aiming to ensure stable market access and guaranteed pre-agreed pricing for the participating farmers.
In addition to the guaranteed purchase price, the cooperative members benefit from critical state-supported measures designed to bolster agricultural productivity and farmer welfare.
These benefits include access to capital, technical assistance, and reduced costs for essential fertilisers and agrochemical inputs.
