PM Hun Manet: Cambodia and Korea Capable of Bilateral Cooperation on Online Scam Issues
AKP Phnom Penh, October 16, 2025 --
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm stance following reports by media outlets in a neighbouring country suggesting that its leader planned to discuss with the President of the Republic of Korea the issue of online scams in Cambodia involving Korean nationals.
The Prime Minister made his remarks on his official social media platform this afternoon, after meeting with H.E. Ms. Kim Jina, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, in Phnom Penh earlier in the morning.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet informed his Korean guest that, if this report is true, he would like her to convey to the President that Cambodia does not need any neighbouring country to carry out such work on its behalf.
“The leader of that country should instead focus on properly resolving their own domestic issues. As for the bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea in combating online scams, our two countries possess sufficient capacity and means to work together bilaterally to resolve the matter — without the need for any third-party involvement,” he underlined.
Samdech Thipadei also shared further outcomes of the meeting, noting that both sides discussed joint efforts to combat transnational crimes, particularly online scams, and highlighted the fruitful results achieved through close cooperation between Cambodian and Korean authorities over the years.
At the same time, Cambodia and the Republic of Korea will continue to strengthen their collaboration to prevent, suppress, and combat online scams more effectively, contributing to the maintenance of peace, public order, and social security, he added.
The Cambodia–Republic of Korea relations, which were reestablished in 1997 and elevated to the level of a Strategic Partnership in 2024, have continued to grow stronger and deeper, with remarkable progress in cooperation across nearly all sectors.
