Timor-Leste Expresses Gratitude for Cambodia’s Support in ASEAN Membership Bid

Timor-Leste has expressed deep gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its strong support in the country’s bid to become a full member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
During a courtesy visit to Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon, H.E. Bendito dos Santos Freitas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, conveyed his nation’s appreciation.
He emphasised that Cambodia’s support holds great significance for Timor-Leste and praised the good relationship between the two nations. He also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed H.E. Bendito dos Santos Freitas and commended the productive discussions between the Foreign Ministers of both countries.
He highlighted the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and Timor-Leste, noting that both nations have vast potential for further cooperation—both on a bilateral level and within the ASEAN framework.
Reiterating Cambodia’s support for Timor-Leste’s ASEAN candidacy, the Premier expressed hope that Timor-Leste would soon become the 11th member of ASEAN.
In addition, both sides discussed strengthening and expanding collaboration in key sectors, including economy, trade, agriculture, tourism, education, and so on.
