Angkor Sankranta to Boost Cambodia’s Tourism and Cultural Heritage
AKP Phnom Penh, April 04, 2025 --
The upcoming Angkor Sankranta event will serve as a powerful catalyst for bosoting Cambodia's tourism sector and promote her rich cultural heritage to the world.
The remarks were made by H.E. Sok Sabayna, Executive Director of the 2025 Angkor Sankranta event, at a workshop held on April 2 to promote the Angkor Sankranta 2025 event.
He highlighted that since the first Angkor Sankranta in 2013—when Siem Reap province welcomed 170,000 tourists—the event has grown significantly. By 2023, the 10th anniversary of Angkor Sankranta, the province recorded over 2 million visitors, generating more than US$126 million in revenue.
Over the years, Angkor Sankranta has become a major driver of tourism in Siem Reap, offering visitors a vibrant experience of Khmer arts, culture, and heritage. "This year, Angkor Sankranta will further promote tourism and cultural arts through major entertainment programmes," he said.
According to the event organising committee, preparations are well underway to ensure the event's success. Key venues around Angkor Wat and Siem Reap city are being readied for the celebrations, which will take place from April 14 to 16.
This year’s Angkor Sankranta is expected to be on a larger scale and more unique than previous editions, further strengthening Siem Reap’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination.
The Ministry of Tourism has announced that in addition to Siem Reap, Sankranta celebrations will be held in provinces, cities, and districts nationwide, allowing local communities to partake in the festivities during the Khmer Traditional New Year.
With a high number of tourists expected, the ministry has instructed all provincial and capital tourism departments to enhance the quality of tourism services, hospitality, and infrastructure.
Tourism-related businesses are urged to maintain high standards, ensure public order, and manage tourist flows efficiently during the holiday period. The ministry has also emphasised the importance of hygiene and encouraged participation in promotional campaigns such as "Tourism for All, All for Tourism," "Sustainable Tourism in Peace," and "Each Person is an Ambassador for Cambodia's Tourism" to both national and international visitors.
