Cambodia to Provide US$100,000 as Emergency Assistance for Myanmar
AKP Phnom Penh, March 30, 2025 —
Cambodia will provide US$100,000 in initial emergency assistance to Myanmar, and we are working on the possibility to further contribute to the regional relief efforts, including through the provision of medical and other essential supplies where appropriate.
The assistance was announced by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia at the Special Emergency Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers in the Aftermath of the Earthquake in Myanmar on Mar. 30 via videoconference.
“We are glad to hear many countries outside the region offer also emergency assistance to Myanmar,” he said.
The Cambodian top diplomat also took the opportunity to express Cambodia’s sincere appreciation to the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand for the assistance extended to Cambodian nationals that are affected by this disaster. “Our respective embassies are working closely with the rescue teams on the ground,” he said.
Given that many people are still trapped under collapsed buildings and are in need of medical assistance, we must continue to work swiftly to save as many lives as possible. Every minute counts.
“Cambodia remains steadfast in our commitment to standing with Myanmar, Thailand, and the entire ASEAN family, under Malaysia chairmanship, during this difficult time,” he reaffirmed.
Besides, he said, Cambodia would like to join Malaysia and other colleagues to call on all concerned parties in Myanmar for a ceasefire, “ to focus on peace” as put by (FM) Erywan, to allow the humanitarian assistance to reach those in need.
