H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, presided over here on Mar. 14 the 2025 World Consumer Rights Day and the Consumer Rights Conference, calling for collaboration from relevant parties to strengthen customer protection in Cambodia.

Co-organised by the Ministry of Commerce and the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) under the theme “Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles,” the event was aimed to bolster consumer rights awareness and promote a fair and diverse marketplace.

The event was attended by H.E. Jost Kadel, Chargé d’Affaires and the new Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cambodia, and representatives from various ministries, institutions, development partners, and the private sector.

Speaking at the function, H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, also Chairperson of the National Commission for Consumer Protection, emphasised that since the Consumer Protection Law was adopted and came into force on Nov. 2, 2019, the Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with GIZ, has been continuously disseminating laws and regulations to relevant parties.

The ministry has actively worked to safeguard consumer rights by building stronger regulations, promoting fair competition and trust in business, and collaborating with national and international bodies to create more effective protection policies, she said.

“Protecting consumer rights is not the duty of any one individual, but rather the task and common interest of all of us, because protecting consumers is protecting all of us,” she said, reiterating consumers’ fundamental rights to receive quality and safe products, goods and services.

H.E. Minister expected that through the World Consumer Rights Day celebration, all relevant parties would gain more knowledge regarding consumer protection and continue to participate in further strengthening consumer protection in Cambodia.
