AKP Phnom Penh, January 15, 2025 --
Banteay Meanchey province will put to use a large controlled landfill in Serei Sophorn city soon.
The update was shared by Director of the Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport Mr. Sok Chantha.
Worth over US$6 million, the construction of the landfill is part of a project to improve the city's environmental management around Tonle Sap Lake under a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The project will help reduce environmental pollution and promote the city's beauty and the welfare of people, and it can be operated for 16 years, he added.
Main facilities at the landfill include a solid waste separation site, waste treatment pits, a site to safely store hazardous waste, car washing equipment, and an administrative building.
Located at Kongva village, Sangkat Kampong Svay, the controlled landfill stretches over 11 hectares of land surface and is capable of storing 286,800 tonnes of solid waste.
It can handle 48 tonnes of solid waste per day, he continued.
