Cambodia Finalising Report on Persons with Disabilities
AKP Phnom Penh, January 08, 2025 -- Cambodia is finalising the country's report on the implementation of the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.
Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation H.E. Chea Somethy chaired a meeting to finalise the report on Jan. 6 to be submitted to the pertinent committee at the United Nations.
According to the minister, Cambodia ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in late 2012, and the application of the requirements by the convention came into force in the country in the following year.
As a state party of UNCRPD, he added, Cambodia has an obligation to implement the convention and provide a comprehensive report on the measures taken to effectively fulfil its commitment under the convention every four years.
The Royal Government of Cambodia has paid high attention to the welfare of the people with disabilities to optimise their access to social services and engagement in the country's socio-economic development, including jobs and career development.
As of November 2024, about 9,500 persons with disabilities in Cambodia are being employed at ministries, public institutions, and private entities across the country.
