Senate President Welcomes First Ever Successful Kidney Transplant Patient
AKP Phnom Penh, October 8, 2026 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, has expressed his delight over the first-ever successful kidney transplant operation in Cambodia.
According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the first patient who is the first successful kidney transplant patient is Ms. Mov Sophan, a teacher from Prey Veng province, following a period of regular dialysis and medical treatment at Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh.
In a social media message shared on Thursday afternoon, Samdech Techo Hun Sen recalled that he had previously promised to Ms. Mov Sophan that he would seek ways to help her receive treatment for her kidney disease.
The patient had been undergoing regular dialysis while waiting for an appropriate treatment opportunity. With the dedicated care and medical expertise of Cambodian and French doctors at Calmette Hospital, she has now successfully undergone a kidney transplant.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his appreciation to the Cambodian and French medical teams, particularly the person who donated the kidney, making it possible for the patient to continue her life.
The Senate President stressed that without a kidney transplant, patients suffering from severe kidney failure may face a life-threatening situation and have to depend on regular dialysis.
“Thanks to the Cambodian and French medical teams, especially the kidney donor, for giving Mov Sophan a chance to live,” he said.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also affirmed that he and his wife would continue to support both the kidney donor and the recipient.
The Senate President further highlighted the progress of Cambodia’s healthcare sector, saying that the country is now capable of providing successful treatment for an increasing number of serious medical conditions, including kidney transplantation.
