Cambodian PM Urges Higher Education Institutions to Strengthen Students’ Digital and AI Skills
AKP Phnom Penh, October 8, 2026 —
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has called for the modernisation of Cambodia’s education and training systems, urging higher education institutions to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and digital skills into their programmes to ensure that the country’s human resources can respond effectively to the ongoing digital transformation.
The Prime Minister made the remarks this morning while presiding over the graduation ceremony for some 2,000 graduates of the University of Management and Economics in Battambang province.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasised the need to further strengthen educational programmes and quality assurance systems, while promoting students’ critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as their ability to adapt to changing real-world circumstances.
Samdech Thipadei also encouraged educational institutions to incorporate AI and digital skills into their curricula according to their capacity and relevance, enabling Cambodia’s education system to keep pace with technological and digital developments.
The Prime Minister stressed that the modernisation of education and vocational training should place greater emphasis on learning outcomes, practical skills, productivity and emerging employment trends in the domestic labour market.
At the same time, the Prime Minister called on the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to work closely together to identify human resource requirements across different sectors.
Mechanisms should also be developed to facilitate stronger and more active participation from the private sector in identifying and compiling information on labour demand, he said.
Such cooperation, the Prime Minister noted, would help align education and skills development with actual labour market needs, while contributing to the development of a skilled workforce capable of supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic growth in the digital era.
