Singapore to study feasibility of building energy infrastructure cluster on NE island
AKP Phnom Penh, the October 6,2026--
Singapore will study the feasibility of establishing an energy infrastructure cluster on Pulau Tekong, an island off the city-state's northeastern coast, to strengthen energy security and support its energy transition, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) said on Tuesday.
The proposed cluster could include hydrogen-ready natural gas-fired power plants, a liquefied natural gas terminal and other low-carbon energy technologies, the EMA said in a statement.
The authority will appoint a consultant through a tender published on Monday to assess the feasibility of the project and develop a proposed master plan for the cluster, which is expected to cover about 200 hectares.
The consultant is expected to be appointed by mid-2027, and the study will take about two years, the EMA said.
"If it materializes, the energy infrastructure cluster on Pulau Tekong will play an important role in meeting Singapore's growing energy needs," EMA Chief Executive Puah Kok Keong said.
While the EMA studies the viability of different energy pathways, Singapore needs to plan ahead for new energy infrastructure to meet rising long-term power demand as its economy continues to grow, the authority said.
