Cambodia’s efforts following the successful conclusion of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2) will include a major diplomatic campaign to protect the country’s reputation and counter allegations made against Cambodia, said H.E. Suos Yara, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Information and Spokesperson of ISC-2.

Speaking at a press conference on the outcomes of ISC-2 in Phnom Penh on Aug. 28, H.E. Suos Yara said that, beyond the Phnom Penh Declaration adopted at the three-day conference, Cambodia still had important tasks to undertake, particularly what he described as a “war to protect Cambodia’s reputation.”

He said Cambodia had successfully fought against online scams and that the government was continuing to address the issue. Therefore, he stressed that allegations linking Cambodia to scam activities should not be used as a pretext for aggression against the country.

“War is not only about weapons. The war to protect our reputation is very important. They cannot destroy our reputation when we have held a global-level parliamentary speakers’ conference,” H.E. Suos Yara said.

He added that Cambodia’s successful efforts to combat online scams had demonstrated that the country was taking concrete action against the problem. He said relevant agencies were continuing their work to ensure that scam-related activities were eliminated.

According to H.E. Suos Yara, parliamentary and governmental diplomacy would play an important role in protecting Cambodia’s reputation and defending the country’s legitimacy and standing internationally.

He also highlighted the importance of solidarity and coordination among Cambodia’s institutions, saying that cooperation between the government and parliament was essential to counter a “law of the jungle,” under which stronger parties prevail over weaker ones.

He stressed that such an approach should instead be addressed through institutional accountability and legal mechanisms.

H.E. Suos Yara further noted that ISC-2 had provided an important platform for Cambodia to call for broader parliamentary-level participation in observing and supporting the implementation of the ceasefire, complementing the existing ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

He said the initiative would contribute to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and international engagement in support of peace, accountability, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
