AKP Phnom Penh, August 21, 2026 -- Cambodia has reaffirmed its strong commitment to strengthening its close friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, highlighting the importance of mutual respect, solidarity and support between the two neighbouring countries.

The reaffirmation was made by H.E. Santepundit Neth Savoeun, Deputy Prime Minister and Representative of the Royal Government of Cambodia, while presiding over a ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day in Phnom Penh on Aug. 20.

The ceremony was hosted by the Embassy of Vietnam in Cambodia and attended by Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly; senior leaders of the Cambodian People’s Party; representatives of diplomatic missions and international organisations in Cambodia; as well as Vietnamese businesspeople, students and residents in the Kingdom.

Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Neth Savoeun said Cambodia highly values its close relationship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, which are rooted in mutual respect, solidarity and support.

He described the traditional friendship between the two countries as unique and invaluable, stressing that mutual assistance in the past and present has contributed significantly to the achievements, development and prosperity of both nations.

The Deputy Prime Minister also praised the continued maintenance of warm bilateral relations through regular visits and exchanges at all levels, both between the two governments and among the peoples of Cambodia and Vietnam.

He expressed satisfaction that bilateral cooperation has continued to expand across various areas, including politics, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges.

For his part, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia said bilateral relations have recently reached a new level, with political trust further strengthened through high-level visits and regular engagement between the leaders of the two countries.

The Ambassador expressed confidence that Cambodia-Vietnam relations, characterised by good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability, will continue to grow stronger across all fields.

He affirmed that the two countries will work together to further elevate bilateral relations and make their cooperation increasingly close, effective and substantive for the benefit of both peoples.
