Four Ministries and Institution Strengthen Cooperation on Environmental Protection
AKP Phnom Penh, August 20, 2026 -- The Ministry of Environment, the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, and the Ministry of Cults and Religions signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Aug. 20 to strengthen cooperation on environmental and natural resource protection and sustainable development.
H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment; H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice-President of CMAA; H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology; and H.E. Chay Borin, Minister of Cults and Religions, jointly signed the MoUs at the Ministry of Environment.
The agreements cover mine clearance in protected areas, watershed and ecosystem conservation, sustainable water resource management, tree planting and greenhouse gas reduction, as well as environmental protection in the religious sector.
H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth said the cooperation reflects the interconnected nature of mine safety, water resource management, climate change response and environmental protection, in line with the Royal Government’s vision of building a “clean, green and sustainable” Cambodia.
Under the agreements, pagodas and religious institutions will also be encouraged to reduce plastic use, improve waste management, plant trees, conserve water and energy, and protect wildlife and local ecosystems.
