Cambodia Named Country of Honour at 2026 Angoulême Francophone Film Festival
AKP Phnom Penh, August 20, 2026 —
Cambodia will be the Country of Honour at the 19th edition of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, to be held from Aug. 24 to 29, 2026 in France, the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in France announced.
The honour highlights the longstanding historical, cultural and friendly ties between Cambodia and the Francophone community. It also pays tribute to the memory of the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk, a filmmaker and an important figure of the Francophonie.
The ceremony will be attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Samdech Reach Botrei Preah Anoch Norodom Arunrasmy, High Privy Counsellor to His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Senator of Cambodia.
A total of nine Cambodian films will be screened out of competition during the festival. The selection will showcase several generations of Cambodian filmmakers and trace four decades of Cambodia’s history, while highlighting the resilience of the Cambodian people and their ability to preserve and renew their cultural identity through difficult times.
According to the Embassy, the celebration of Cambodian cinema in Angoulême will also serve as a prelude to the 20th Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia will host in Phnom Penh on Nov. 15-16, 2026.
The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in France invited the Francophone public, film enthusiasts and the Cambodian diaspora in France to attend the event, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen intercultural dialogue and ties among peoples across the Francophone community.
