Cambodia to Give Away 5 Million Trees in "Green Sprout" Drive for Carbon-Neutral Future
AKP Phnom Penh, June 25, 2026 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment will distribute 5 million free saplings this rainy season under the "Green Sprout" campaign, aiming to expand forest cover and push the nation toward carbon neutrality by 2050.
The main handover runs July 10-13 at the ministry’s Phnom Penh headquarters, but citizens can also pick up trees year-round at provincial environment departments and five regional nurseries in Thbong Khmum, Siem Reap, Kampong Speu, Mondulkiri, and Koh Kong.
Of the 5 million saplings – 1.5 million of which are palm trees – residents are encouraged to plant them at homes, schools, pagodas, and public spaces, or use them for community reforestation projects.
Launched under Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet’s directive, the annual initiative boosts local livelihoods while cutting emissions. With millions already pre-grown, the Royal Government says it is ready to meet public demand and turn every citizen into a planter for the country’s green future.
