Cambodia Strongly Protests Thailand’s Continued Border Activities, Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Resolution
AKP Phnom Penh, June 24, 2026 --
The Royal Government of Cambodia has lodged a formal protest against Thailand’s continued violations of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in areas along the Cambodia-Thailand border illegally occupied by Thai armed forces since last year.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Wednesday evening, between June 18 and 22, 2026, a Thai land surveying team, accompanied by approximately 25 Thai citizens and 9 vehicles, conducted a land survey and installed land-boundary markers in the area of Chouk Chey village, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, along the boundary segment between Boundary Pillars 46 and 47.
The Royal Government of Cambodia strongly protested against the above-mentioned activities, which clearly violate the Article 5 of the MOU 2000 between the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on the Survey and Demarcation of the Land Boundary, and the TOR 2003, as well as the Agreed Minutes of the Special Meeting of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) dated Oct. 22, 2025 in Chanthaburi province, Thailand.
These activities are in breach of Item I (De-escalation Measures) of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) of Dec. 27, 2025, in which both sides agreed to refer to the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to resume at the earliest the survey and demarcation work, in accordance with existing agreements between the two countries.
Cambodia reiterated that it does not recognise any boundary line or territorial asserted by Thailand, and stresses that the recent activities shall not prejudice Cambodia's legal rights or position regarding its international border.
The Royal Government of Cambodia demanded that Thailand immediately cease all of such unlawful activities, refrain from further unilateral actions, and work to de-escalate tensions, foster mutual trust, and preserve peace and good neighbourliness along the border.
While firmly upholding its principled position that borderlines must not be changed by force, Cambodia reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to resolving all boundary disputes with Thailand, as with all its neighbours, exclusively through peaceful means, in line with international law and existing bilateral agreements.
