Cambodia to Leverage Digital Surveys to Boost International Tourism and Strategy
AKP Phnom Penh, June 24, 2026 -- Ministry of Tourism has announced a strategic partnership with The Asia Foundation to implement the Cambodia International Visitors’ Survey (CIVS), which will leverage modern digital technology to gather deep insights into foreign travellers, creating an analytical framework to shape future national tourism policies.
The information was made in a meeting held here on June 23 between Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak and delegation from The Asia Foundation in Cambodia led by its Country Representative Ms. Meloney C. Lindberg.
During the meeting, Ms. Meloney C. Lindberg briefed H.E. Minister on the activities and past cooperation between The Asia Foundation and the Ministry of Tourism, especially the Foundation’s support for research, capacity building, and sustainable tourism development.
She also presented the CIVS project, which aims to study and better understand the experiences and satisfaction levels of international tourists, particularly those from Cambodia’s key tourism markets.
Through digital, technology-based surveys, the project will provide important data on aspects such as tourists’ length of stay, preferred activities, expenditure patterns, and other relevant information.
The data collected will assist the Ministry of Tourism and relevant stakeholders in monitoring market trends, identifying popular tourism products and activities, and formulating policies and strategies that are more responsive to the actual needs and expectations of tourists.
On this occasion, both parties agreed on the importance of utilising data and research as a foundation for policymaking and tourism development in Cambodia.
They also held in-depth discussions on the effective implementation of CIVS through close coordination and cooperation between The Asia Foundation and the Ministry of Tourism.
In response, H.E. Huot Hak expressed his appreciation and high regard for The Asia Foundation as a longstanding and important partner of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Tourism in supporting tourism development, as well as promoting Cambodia’s cultural heritage and UNESCO World Heritage sites to the international community.
He also assigned relevant technical teams to closely coordinate and cooperate with The Asia Foundation to ensure the successful and effective implementation of the project, contributing to the development of the tourism sector, which is regarded as a vital pillar of the national economy under the visionary leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
