Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet underscored that relations between the youth of Cambodia and Viet Nam serve as an important foundation for strengthening bilateral ties.

The remarks were made during a courtesy meeting on Tuesday with H.E. Bui Quang Huy, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, on the sidelines of the Prime Minister’s official visit to Viet Nam and participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) in Hanoi on June 8-9.

During the meeting, H.E. Bui Quang Huy briefed the Prime Minister on the outcomes of recent discussions between the youth wing of Cambodia’s ruling party and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Both sides agreed to organise a series of activities and events, particularly in border provinces, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Cambodia-Viet Nam diplomatic relations in 2027.

In response, Samdech Thipadei welcomed the meaningful exchanges and continued efforts to deepen mutual understanding between young people of the two countries. He emphasised that stronger youth engagement contributes directly to the long-term development of Cambodia-Viet Nam relations.

The Prime Minister encouraged Cambodian and Vietnamese youth, as well as youth from Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam, to establish regular mechanisms for interaction, ideally on an annual basis, in order to preserve solidarity and friendship and continue building on the legacy of earlier generations of leaders.

Samdech Thipadei also expressed full support for youth-led initiatives to organise commemorative activities marking the diplomatic milestone next year.

At the government level, he noted that both countries have also agreed to coordinate broader activities and events to ensure the anniversary is commemorated in a meaningful and inclusive manner.

Before concluding the meeting, both sides reaffirmed that expanding dialogue and maintaining regular engagement at all levels remain essential to preserving and further strengthening bilateral relations.

They expressed confidence that continued exchanges would help elevate Cambodia-Viet Nam relations to a new level in the years ahead.
