Cambodia Highlights Media Cooperation at 2026 ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum
AKP Phnom Penh, June 09, 2026 --
Media cooperation between ASEAN and China is a significant milestone as ASEAN and China commemorate the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, said H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information of Cambodia.
Speaking at the 2026 ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum and Related Events held in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China on June 9, under the theme “Media Convergence for Shared Growth: Opening a New Chapter in ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”, H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida noted that the event comes as ASEAN-China relations have continued to flourish on the basis of mutual respect, good-neighbourliness, practical cooperation, and a shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity. For Cambodia, he said, media cooperation serves as an important pillar of the partnership by fostering mutual understanding, promoting cultural exchange, and enhancing public awareness of the benefits arising from ASEAN-China cooperation.
H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida highlighted the transformative changes taking place across the media landscape. He noted that the convergence of traditional journalism, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and creative content production has created new opportunities to tell shared stories more effectively, expand audience reach, and strengthen connections among the peoples of ASEAN and China.
At the same time, the Cambodian senior official underscored the challenges posed by rapid technological advancements, including the spread of misinformation, deepfakes, online scams, and the misuse of digital technologies. These challenges, he said, can undermine public trust, social cohesion, and the credibility of information across borders.
“In an increasingly interconnected information environment, no country can tackle these challenges alone,” he stated, calling for closer cooperation, stronger professional networks, and greater mutual support among media institutions across ASEAN and China.
The forum brought together government representatives, media leaders, journalists, and communication experts from ASEAN member states and China to exchange views on strengthening media collaboration, advancing digital transformation, and promoting responsible journalism in the digital era.
