DPM Tea Seiha Rejects Claims That Cambodia Refuses Bilateral Mechanisms and Is Escalating Toward Conflict
AKP Phnom Penh, June 09, 2026 --
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha has rejected reports circulated by certain Thai media outlets and individuals alleging that Cambodia has refused bilateral mechanisms and is increasing troop and weapons deployments to provoke conflict.
In a statement issued this morning, H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha said he had observed attempts by some media and commentators in Thailand to spread claims that Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence was abandoning bilateral approaches and preparing for war.
He firmly dismissed those allegations and clarified that Cambodia continues to maintain its consistent position of resolving all issues through peaceful means.
H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha stressed that Cambodia remains fully committed to respecting and implementing the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement (KL Accord), signed in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, 2025, the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated Dec. 27, 2025, and all other existing bilateral mechanisms.
He reaffirmed that Cambodia supports dialogue and peaceful settlement of differences in accordance with existing agreements and established cooperation frameworks.
The Defence Minister further underlined that Cambodia continues to place importance on maintaining peace, stability, and constructive engagement between the two neighbouring countries.
H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha expressed hope that both sides would continue to address all outstanding issues peacefully and avoid any actions involving the use of force.
