‘One Responsible Click’ — Information Ministry Urges Youth to Become Guardians of Truth in Fight Against Fake News
AKP Phnom Penh, June 08, 2026 —
A senior Cambodian information official on Monday urged young people to use smartphones responsibly and transform into critical guardians of truth, protecting families and communities from the dangers of online disinformation.
“A single, responsible click to share information—backed by careful verification—is the most effective tool to combat online toxicity and halt the spread of disinformation within our society,” said H.E. Tep Asnarith, Undersecretary of State and Ministry of Information’s Spokesperson.
Speaking to about 2,200 students, teachers, and local officials at Tuol Ampil High School in Phnom Penh, he marked the second phase of the Ministry’s national “Say No to Fake News” campaign.
H.E. Tep Asnarith advised the public to always verify online content sources, relying on official news organisations or verified Royal Government accounts. He noted fake news often uses sensationalised, exaggerated, or fear-inducing headlines with unusual visuals designed to bait users, and urged students to report suspicious content directly to social media platforms.
He recommended trusted sources such as official leadership social media pages, Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), National Television of Cambodia (TVK), National Radio of Cambodia (RNK), and professional private media agencies.
The Ministry of Information said the Royal Government is actively monitoring digital spaces to identify fake news while promoting media literacy nationwide. Launched on May 18, 2026, by Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra under the theme “Strengthening Information and Media Literacy for Information Safety,” the campaign is now touring high schools and secondary schools in Phnom Penh and Preah Vihear province, with plans to expand nationwide.
