Cambodia Joins ASEAN-China Media Forum in Shenyang to Fight Disinformation, Boost Regional Ties
AKP Phnom Penh, June 08, 2026—
A Cambodian delegation arrived in China for the 2026 ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum, vowing to strengthen regional communication and counter disinformation amid rapid technological change, official said Monday.
The delegation is led by H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida, Undersecretary of State and Cambodia’s ASEAN Senior Official Responsible for Information (SOMRI), representing Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra. The forum opened Monday in Shenyang, Liaoning Province.
Under the theme “Media Integration for Shared Growth: Opening a New Chapter of ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” the event has drawn roughly 150 high-level officials, international organisation representatives, media executives, and scholars from ASEAN member states and China.
Cambodia’s participation reinforces its commitment to media cooperation within the ASEAN-China framework, focusing on mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and regional information integrity, the ministry said.
At the opening ceremony, H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida was scheduled to address the critical role of media cooperation in the era of AI and shifting information landscapes. He is expected to share Cambodia’s insights on capacity building, fact-checking, and joint strategies to combat fake news.
The 2026 forum marks two milestones: the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the 35th anniversary of their dialogue relations. Organisers aim to spark professional networking and new collaboration opportunities among regional media outlets.
Beyond the main forum, the Cambodian delegation will take part in exchange programmes with media institutions in Liaoning Province and study tours focused on media development, economy, culture, and people-to-people ties.
The Ministry of Information said the forum offers a vital opportunity to work alongside the ASEAN-China Centre and other partners. The effort aligns with the initial phase of Cambodia’s “Pentagonal Strategy,” which prioritises digital transformation, institutional capacity, and raising information quality across the region.
