Cambodian First Lady Presides over UNICEF Cambodia National Ambassador Appointment, Celebrates International Children's Day
AKP Phnom Penh, June 01, 2026 --
Cambodian First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet on Monday afternoon presided over the appointment ceremony of a UNICEF Cambodia National Ambassador and celebrations marking International Children's Day, organised by UNICEF Cambodia under the theme “Together for Every Child: From Healing to Hope.”
At the event, held in Phnom Penh, Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony extended her warmest congratulations on the observance of the 77th International Children's Day on June 1, the 25th World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, and Cambodian Children's Day 2026, held under the theme “Peace as the Foundation for Respect and Protection of Children.”
The First Lady also expressed her appreciation and admiration for UNICEF Cambodia for its decades-long partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia in supporting children's health, nutrition, education, protection, access to clean water, sanitation, and overall well-being.
She noted that, as a result of these joint efforts, many Cambodian children have gained greater access to education, quality healthcare services, and improved care in recent years.
Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony underscored the importance of peace in ensuring children's welfare and development.
“For children, peace means safety within the family, the opportunity to attend school, a smile, growth without fear, and hope for the future,” she said.
Reflecting on Cambodia's past, she pointed out that the consequences of war had separated many children from their families and deprived them of homes, schools, and essential public services, severely limiting their opportunities for survival and development.
The First Lady reaffirmed the importance of preserving peace and continuing efforts to promote and protect the rights and well-being of every child in Cambodia.
