Cambodian and Chinese Institutes Partner on TVET Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, May 26, 2026 --
Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, H.E. Heng Sour, received here on May 25 a courtesy call from Mr. Chen Xiangru, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Guangxi Transport Vocational and Technical College (GTVTC).
The Minister also witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between GTVTC, the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC), and the Prasith Institute of Technology (PIT).
During the meeting, H.E. Heng Sour warmly welcomed Mr. Chen Xiangru and his delegation, and highly praised the proud achievements resulting from the cooperation between the Ministry and GTVTC.
"Cambodia and China share a long-standing, historic friendship and close cooperation, which has significantly contributed to Cambodia's development, particularly in infrastructure construction," said H.E. Minister.
He added that the meeting represents a valuable opportunity to further expand TVET cooperation, as tangibly demonstrated by the signing of the agreement.
The Minister expressed his full satisfaction and support for this expanded collaboration, noting that the initiative is highly timely and directly addresses practical needs—especially regarding NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) or vehicles utilising renewable energy, which the Royal Government of Cambodia is actively promoting.
The increasing usage of this type of vehicle in Cambodia demands expanded training in maintenance and repair skills.
The Minister urged the immediate implementation of the agreement, with a particular emphasis on training a large number of teachers up to the Master’s degree level in the field of NEVs.
He further elaborated that Cambodia has always considered TVET a key catalyst for driving labour productivity growth, supporting industrial diversification, upgrading industrial standards, and expanding decent employment opportunities for youth.
For his part, Mr. Chen Xiangru expressed his deep gratitude to the Minister and the Ministry’s leadership for their continuous support and expansion of TVET cooperation, as well as for providing excellent recommendations that serve as a solid foundation for the partnership.
He noted that the milestone is an achievement GTVTC has long anticipated, allowing them to provide technical training and skills that align with Cambodia's needs, particularly in the NEV sector.
He expressed strong hope that the discussion and exchange of views would serve as an opportunity to share experiences regarding effective school and resource management, especially concerning future projects to establish a joint centre for NEV development in Cambodia.
He also committed to accelerating the implementation of these training programmes as quickly as possible.
Both parties expressed their firm confidence that this valuable discussion and deep foresight will provide a solid foundation for practical cooperation in NEVs, automotive technology, logistics, and industry-oriented skill development for the mutual benefit of both nations.
