"Stop Obscene Content, Start Educating: Cambodian First Lady’s Plea to Creators"
AKP Phnom Penh, May 05, 2026 -- Cambodian First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet has called on digital content creators to refrain from producing obscene or inappropriate videos, urging them instead to use their platforms to bolster social morality and traditional values.
Speaking at the review meeting of the National Committee for Uplifting Social Morality, Women's Values, and the Khmer Family on Tuesday, Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony emphasised the influential role creators play in modern society.
"Content creators are role models. Their videos reach audiences of all ages," she said. "I urge all creators to produce educational content that benefits society, focusing on ethics, virtue, and professional etiquette."
The First Lady highlighted a rise in concerning digital trends, specifically citing the use of profanity and excessive or inappropriate attire in social media posts.
She expressed particular concern over videos featuring children coached to use disrespectful language or gestures, noting that such content has drawn significant public criticism.
As technology continues to advance rapidly, the First Lady warned of the dual nature of social media, which carries both positive and negative influences.
She called on all stakeholders to actively prevent the spread of harmful content that undermines Cambodian culture.
During the session, she commended the committee’s progress in implementing the Royal Government’s "Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1," which prioritises social dignity and the preservation of Khmer traditions.
Minister of Women’s Affairs H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi noted that the National Committee, established to protect national culture and family happiness, has achieved significant milestones over the past 20 years. These include nationwide educational campaigns, the prevention of human trafficking, and the promotion of digital literacy aimed at maintaining social ethics in the internet age.
