Cambodia, China Reaffirm ‘Ironclad Friendship’ During Foreign Ministers’ Bilateral Meeting

Cambodia and China reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding strategic cooperation during an official visit by Chinese Foreign Minister H.E. Wang Yi to Phnom Penh last week, according to a press release from Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made public this morning.
H.E. Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on April 23 following the successful first meeting of the Cambodia-China “2+2” Strategic Dialogue held a day earlier in the capital.
During the meeting, both sides pledged to further solidify what they described as the “Ironclad Friendship,” deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and advance the building of an “All-Weather Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era.”
The two Ministers highlighted their shared determination to fully implement the high-level consensus reached between Cambodian leaders and Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping.
They praised progress in cooperation across multiple sectors, including political and security affairs, defence, trade and investment, infrastructure, agriculture, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides also reaffirmed support for advancing major bilateral initiatives such as the “Diamond Cooperation Framework,” the “Industrial and Technological Corridor,” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor.”
Cambodia reiterated its adherence to the One-China policy, stating that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.
For his part, H.E. Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s support for Cambodia’s independent development path suited to its national conditions and praised Cambodia’s growing role in regional and international affairs.
The two countries also pledged to deepen defence and security cooperation. China additionally reiterated continued support for the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project.
On regional issues, H.E. Prak Sokhonn briefed H.E. Wang Yi on the latest developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation and expressed appreciation for China’s role in encouraging dialogue and direct communication between the two neighbouring countries.
He also thanked China for humanitarian assistance provided to displaced people affected by the situation.
Both Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within multilateral frameworks, upholding the United Nations Charter and international law, and contributing jointly to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.
