Ministry of Information to Launch Digital Portals for All 25 Municipality & Provinces to Bolster National Narrative
AKP Phnom Penh, April 29, 2026 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of Information is accelerating the digital transformation of its municipal and provincial departments, mandating the establishment of official websites across all 25 municipality and provinces to strengthen the national data infrastructure and counter misinformation.
Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra emphasised the urgency of building a robust digital presence during a consultative meeting held at the Ministry on Tuesday. He noted that currently, only a small fraction of the 25 municipal and provincial information departments operates official websites, representing a significant gap in the country's digital governance.
"All information departments must establish websites to generate and secure data on digital platforms," the Minister stated. He described these portals as "essential repositories" for official news that ensure data security and public accessibility.
The Minister underscored that strengthening the nation's digital footprint is a strategic necessity to balance the online landscape, where search results often highlight "negative or misleading" information regarding Cambodia.
The digital initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. Under the project, each provincial department will receive a specialised content management system (CMS), while a centralised platform will allow the Ministry to monitor and coordinate news flow nationwide.
Beyond static websites, the Minister urged departments to expand their digital reach via social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Telegram, as well as dedicated mobile applications.
Technical experts reported that website development is slated for completion by April 30, with trial accounts expected to be issued by May 8, 2026.
In a bid to increase public engagement, H.E. Neth Pheaktra instructed departments to diversify their output beyond administrative news to include international affairs, entertainment, sports, economy, tourism, and culture. He also called for the integration of live-streaming capabilities for radio and television and the creation of comprehensive digital archives.
"The bottom line is the result," the Minister said, stressing that these platforms must be actively utilised and regularly updated to ensure the public has access to reliable, timely, and official information.
