Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to keeping Cambodia malaria-free, marking National Malaria Day and World Malaria Day under the theme: “End Malaria for Good: Now We Can, and We Must.”

In a message issued on the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia had achieved a historic public health milestone after fully meeting all key targets under the National Strategic Plan for Malaria Elimination 2011-2025.

He noted that no new locally transmitted malaria cases had been recorded in Cambodia since the fourth quarter of 2025, while no malaria-related deaths have been reported since 2018.

The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health, the National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control, local authorities, community volunteers, development partners, and citizens for contributing to the achievement.

Samdech Thipadei said Cambodia is the first country in the Greater Mekong Subregion to meet its malaria elimination target according to schedule, describing the accomplishment as a model for regional and global health cooperation.

Despite the success, he stressed the importance of continued vigilance to ensure malaria does not re-emerge between 2026 and 2035, including measures to prevent imported cases from countries where the disease remains present.

He also urged the public to continue protecting themselves from mosquito bites and to seek medical attention quickly if symptoms appear after travel to malaria-risk areas.

The Prime Minister called on all stakeholders to maintain collective efforts to preserve the achievement of a “Malaria-Free Cambodia” and strengthen public health as part of the country’s broader development goals.
