Cambodian NA President Extends Condolences over Destructive Fire in Malaysia
AKP Phnom Penh, April 23, 2026 —
Samdech Maha Rathsapheathikathipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, has sent a condolence message to her Malaysian counterpart over a recent massive blaze in a coastal village.
“On behalf of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and on my own behalf, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the Honourable Speaker and, through you, to the families and communities affected by the massive fire that occurred in the water village of the Sandakan District in Sabah last Sunday and severely destroyed approximately 1,000 homes and displaced thousands of residents,” she wrote on April 23 to Honourable Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.) Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia.
The National Assembly and the people of Cambodia stand by the Malaysian House of Representatives, the government, and the people of Malaysia during this difficult time, she affirmed.
“I wish all those affected a swift recovery and a timely return to normal life. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and all those who have lost their livelihoods in this tragic event,” she concluded.
