AKP Phnom Penh, April 20, 2026 --
The Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia in South Korea hosted a vibrant celebration for the Khmer New Year at the Khmer Gumi Temple, bringing together the expatriate community to honour national traditions and foster cultural ties.
The event, held on Sunday, April 19, was attended by H.E. Khuon Phon Rattanak, Ambassador of Cambodia to the Republic of Korea, along with embassy staff and representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the ESEA working group. The festivities were supported by local authorities from Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and drew an estimated 1,200 members of the Cambodian community living and working in South Korea.
The celebration adhered strictly to Khmer cultural customs, featuring traditional religious ceremonies such as the offering of alms to Buddhist monks, the bathing of Buddha statues, and the building of sand mountains.
In a solemn addition to the festivities, a memorial service was held to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the Cambodian armed forces who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield to protect the nation's peace and sovereignty.
