Cambodian Senate Leader Strengthens Ties with Türkiye, Hungary on IPU Sidelines

Cambodian Senate First Vice President H.E. Ouch Borith held bilateral talks with parliamentary leaders of Türkiye and Hungary on the margins of the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, seeking to deepen legislative cooperation and economic connectivity.
In a meeting with H.E. Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly, both sides highlighted the role of parliamentary friendship groups in sustaining diplomatic momentum.
They discussed Turkish Airlines’ direct flights to Phnom Penh as a driver of trade and tourism, along with cultural exchanges via the Yunus Emre Cultural Centre and expanded scholarships for Cambodian students. H.E. Borith also invited H.E. Kurtulmuş to attend the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Meeting hosted by Cambodia.
Separately, H.E. Borith met Hungarian National Assembly First Deputy Speaker H.E. Ms. Márta Mátrai to mark the 70th anniversary of bilateral ties.
He expressed gratitude for Hungary’s post-1979 support in health and education. H.E. Ms. Mátrai confirmed the expansion of the Stipendium Hungaricum programme to 30 annual scholarships for Cambodian students. Both sides pledged commemorative events throughout the year and reaffirmed existing parliamentary MoUs as a pillar for institutional growth.
H.E. Borith underscored parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for national development, calling for more high-level exchanges and legislative best-practice sharing within the IPU framework.
